Secretary of State Betsey Bayless Determines Political Party Recognition

PHOENIX: Arizona Secretary of State Betsey Bayless released today the voter registration figures for the State of Arizona as of November 1, 1999. The November 1st numbers are compiled pursuant to A.R.S. 16-804 to determine continuing recognition of parties for the 2000 election.

Based on the registration figures, the parties that are eligible for continuing recognition for the 2000 elections are: Democratic, Libertarian and Republican.

The statewide voter registration total has decreased to 2,082,505, down 1,589 from the October 1, 1999 figures.

As of November 1st, registered Republicans number 927,240, a decrease of 1,773 since October. Registered Democrats total 842,265, a decrease of 1,058 since October.

Registered Libertarians number 15,207, a decrease of 58 since October. Reform Party registration now totals 864, and increase of 62 since October.

Those registered as independents, or as members of unrecognized parties are grouped together as "others". There are a total of 296,929 "others", an increase of 1,238, since October.

Secretary of State Betsey Bayless Releases Statewide Voter Registration Figures

Decrease in Registration Due to Continuing Voter Roll Clean-Up

Phoenix, AZ January 27, 2000: Arizona Secretary of State Betsey Bayless released today the voter registration figures for the State of Arizona as of January 1, 2000. The statewide voter registration total has decreased to 2,032,384, down 50,121 from the November 1, 1999 figures.

"I am pleased to see the County Recorders continuing to remove ineligible voters from the rolls," said Secretary Bayless. "Removing the names of voters who have died or moved away reduces the potential for voter fraud and saves the taxpayers the costs of printing and mailing voting materials to people who are no longer eligible to vote."

As of January 1st, registered Republicans number 903,023, a decrease of 24,217 since November. Registered Democrats total 823,206, a decrease of 19,059 since November.

Registered Libertarians number 14,688, a decrease of 519. Reform Party registration now totals 932, an increase of 68.

Those registered as independents or as members of unrecognized parties are grouped together in the "other" category on the voter registration figures. The latest total of voters in that group is 290,535, a decrease of 6,394.

Secretary of State Betsey Bayless Releases Statewide Voter Registration Figures

Presidential Preference Election Voter Registration Numbers

PHOENIX - Arizona Secretary of State Betsey Bayless released today the voter registration figures for the State of Arizona as of January 24, 2000, the deadline for registering to vote in the Presidential Preference Election. The statewide voter registration total has increased to 2,041,543, up 9,159 from the January 1, 2000 figures.

As of January 24th, registered Republicans number 909,063, an increase of 6,040 since January 1st. Registered Democrats total 823,962, an increase of 756 since January 1st. Registered Libertarians number 14,707, an increase of 19.

Those registered as independents or as members of unrecognized parties are grouped together in the "other" category on the voter registration figures. The latest total of voters in that group is 293,811, an increase of 3,276, which now includes members of the Reform Party. The Reform Party is no longer a recognized political party in Arizona.

A December 1997 report from the Arizona Department of Economic Security projected the state's voting age population to be 3,367,614. Using that figure, 60% of eligible Arizonans are registered to vote.
