Cordite was an early British smokeless propellant.
It is no longer in common use, as much better
propellants have been developed.
It had a strong recognizable odor when ignited,
hence the all too common and erroneously used phrase
"the stench of Cordite" used by writers of all
stripes to reveal their ignorance.
