at Kartchner's world of stone rows- visitors

For the first time, the public is getting a look at the fantasy world of stone beneath southeastern Arizona.

Glistening straws, massive columns and shimmering, calcified curtains are wowing visitors on practice tours as Kartchner Caverns prepares to open next month.

"It's overwhelming," said Susan Strachan, a Phoenix resident who

took one of the test tours in early October.

With lighting kept low to avoid generating heat, "you really feel like you're in a cave and not an exhibit
