Jail food poisoning narrowed to 2 sources
*PHOENIX (AP) - Improper cooking of lima beans or turkey sausages was the most likely cause of food poisoning at the Maricopa County Jail last month, county officials said.
County authorities have tracked the source of the illness to the dinner served on Sept. 30, when 500 inmates became ill.
One possible cause was a steam kettle in, which the beans were cooked. It could not reach and maintain proper cooking temperature, said Doug Hauth, spokesman for the county Department I of Public Health.
The county is awaiting final tab results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
