Bunka with Hilda MacDonald

Bunka is a Japanese embroidery described as the art of painting on fabric with a thread called "kayo". The work is multidimensional.

The cord used is rayon and resembles that used to make tassels. If the thread is pulled it curls into a lovely loopy stretchy shape which will create different textures and shapes in the piece of work..It is sold in a myriad of colors.Besides embroidery, the thread canbe used to make curly dolls' hair, lace trim on edges of clothing and rugs.

Kits (numbered and unnumbered) are sold in Japan, Canada and the United States and are available from instructors and Chapter presidents. Lessons are recommended to learn the correct techniques and color planning.
