| PLACEBO The debut album was described by Brian as ten short stories. These stories tell tales of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. This album was the party before the morning after that is "Without you i'm nothing" COME HOME A song about somebody who want their lover to come back to them - to "Come Home". The person is feeling asphyxiated, and emaciated without his lover by his side. "Every sky is grey, dreams of yesterday." refers to the fact that now that persons sky is grey, and is dreamoing of the times they were together. TEENAGE ANGST A song about youth, and rebellion. Not neccesarily doing things for enjoyment, but to piss off their parents, sticking to his needle, despite it being waste of his time. BIONIC This is about repeated sex, so repetitive it becomes like being a robot, and not having any feeling, 36 DEGREES This song is about falling blindly in love. "We were tight, but it falls apart, as silver turns to blue" means that once they would do anything for each other, but now they are falling away from each other. The fact that silver is turning to blue could represent the fact that whereas their initial love was conquering, and regal, like silver, it is now only boring, common, and blue, a colour not associated with royalty. "Thought i was getting carat gold, and all I got was you" represents the fact that when they were first in love, is was gold, and splendorous, but now he realises that all he got was a person. 36 degrees refers to the temperature, being a hot temperature when interpretated as degrees celcius, but when you think of it in fareighnheit, it becomes very cold. According to Brian, the numbers in "36 Degrees" have no meaning, but they just seemed to fit. HANG ON TO YOUR IQ A song about being insecure ("Its so miniscule, its no tool at all") the first few lines refer to the Chinese masseus carrying two rubbers (condoms) two lubes (lubricants) and a silver rocket (a dildo) It tells about needing to get high to get out of bed in the morning and tells people to "Hang on to your IQ" instead of falling for drugs, sex, etc. NANCY BOY This is about Brians sexuality. Simple as that. I KNOW A song about being all knowing. It tell us that you can never escape the past, no matter how fast you run. It mentions that we want the perfect things in life, the luxuries. We want to sin, but we dont want the sin on our conscience. And we dont want to meet somebody who is a sinner. BRUISE PRISTINE This song could be about somebody attempting to leave a person, but unable to do it, because they are dumbfounded by their beauty. They might want to leave, as they have been abused by the person physically. LADY OF THE FLOWERS "When I sing lady of the flowers, people think Im talking about a woman, when actually it is about a transvestite." - Who could put it better than the man himself, Brian Molko. SWALLOW This song could be about someone who is deply influenced on drug, and is unable to speak coherantly. |
