free association

. . . It seems like I've heard rumors since the ride debuted that Disney was just about to make a new Star Tours movie. Many people thought that a new "flight" would coincide with the release of Episode I in 1999. It didn't happen . . .

pointless trivia

  • Star Tours replaced Adventure Through Inner Space, which took passengers into the depths of the atom from 1967 to 1985.
  • Star Wars creator, George Lucas, figured heavily in the development of the ride. He helped write its back story and was "executive producer" of the project.
  • The name of our pilot droid is RX-24, hence his nickname "Rex." He is voiced by Paul Reubens of Pee Wee Herman fame.
  • The Disney marketing department originally deemed the attraction "Star Rides." Imagineers, though, were opposed to the name because they traditionally referred to their creations as "attractions," not "rides." "Ride" was just too crude a term for the experience they created for Disneyland guests. Therefore, after some thought, Imagineers coined the name "Star Tours" and it stuck. • The R2-D2 and C-3PO droids in the pre-show area were used in the original Star Wars trilogy. (Ibid)
