Life Cycle of a
Frog.
Frogs lay their eggs in
ponds in the spring. The eggs are encased in jelly and they float on
the surface of the pond. They are called "frog spawn."
If the eggs are not eaten
by predators they will hatch into tiny tadpoles. At first these
tadpoles attach themselves to plants by means of a sucker like mouth.
They soon grow strong enough to swim on their own and look for food.
At about eight weeks the
tadpole grows two back legs. After two more weeks the two front legs
appear. The tadpoles tail is absorbed into the new frogs body.
How old do you think this
tadpole is? Why?
