Midnight Eyes

//Stop staring at me like that.//

//Nani?!//

I dart under his wire and lunge toward him.

//Like you want to fuck me.//

//I’m not!//

I know he’s telling the truth, but that’s not the point.

//Don’t lie, kitten. It’s not nice to lie...//

Jade eyes narrow and his hands begin to tremble. It’s working...

//I’m not interested in you..you orange headed freak!!// He grits his teeth and begins running towards me. //Get the FUCK outta my HEAD!//

Oooo..he’s really pissed now. I just need to push him a little further...I easily dodge his attack and he stumbles forward, several curse words escaping from his mouth as he turns around to try again.

//Oh, well then I guess I could go after your little dark haired boyfriend...unless Farfie wants to play with him first...I don‘t mind leftovers...//

He stalls and I see pain flash through his eyes. I can feel his mind crumbling. Looks like I hit his sensitive spot.

Perfect.

I kick him in the groin. Hard. He falls to his knees shouting several obscenities as tears sparkle in the corners of his eyes. I bend down and grab his chin roughly and he whimpers in defeat. This is so much fun...

“Please...”

I find my eyes widening at the strange softness in the boy’s voice. “Please... don’t hurt Ken.” Tears run down his cheeks. “Do anything you want with me but...please...please... leave him alone.” his eyes look down at the street.

“I’ll do anything...”

This is the part where I’m supposed to drag him to a dark corner and fuck him until there‘s nothing left for me to fuck, but I find myself frozen in place.

//You mean to tell me you’d die for that little brat!?// I feel myself becoming angry for no reason.

//Yes...// His eyes slowly look up to me, the tears still falling.

“Why?!” I violently pull his face closer towards mine.

“Because...because...I...”

The baka hasn’t even admitted it to himself.

//Because you WHAT!?// I find myself screaming into his mind.

//Because I love him!// his brain screams back.

His jaw drops open and his eyes glaze over.

“I love him....”

His thoughts of the other boy rush into my mind. Him smiling, him laughing, him falling on his ass, him taking his hand as he blushes lightly, him tilting his head up for their first kiss...

Sometimes reading minds sucks.

I let go of his chin and bury my face into my hands. I hear him standing up quickly.

“STOP IT!” I hear myself scream. The images keep flowing through my mind. Love..happiness...things that I’ll never have. I bite back tears. Tears are for kittens, not for me.

“Nani?” He wants to get me with his wire, but I’m scaring him.

I’m scaring myself.

I frantically try to block his thoughts as I stare absentmindedly at the dark sky.

Midnight blue. Just like his eyes. The ones that will never look at me the way this kitten looks at his lover.

It’s not fair. Life isn’t fair.

Fuck it. I’m outta here.

I run like mad, Crawford screaming into my mind. He’s gonna give me hell, but its better than this.

I’m always running. Running away from my problems, running away from memories,

Running away from things I’m afraid to admit to myself.

“What the FUCK is wrong with you?!?” Crawford’s fists beat angrily at the door of my room.

//Go away.// I bury my head deeper under the covers.

“You run away in the middle of an attack on Weiß? What we‘re you thinking?!”

//Leave me alone.//

//God damn you.//

//Love you too, Bradley.//

My lips slide into a smirk as I hear the front door slam. Moments later I hear footsteps heading towards the doorway also.

“Where are you going Farf?” I call from my room. The footsteps stop.

“To play.” In other words, to fuck and kill some random kid he finds. Hey, if it makes him happy...

“Have fun.”

“Oh, I will.” The front door opens and shuts once again.

I stare blankly at my comforter and brush my long bangs out of my face. I seriously need a haircut. I roll off of the bed and my feet hit the soft carpet. It’s a nice carpet, mines the only room with it, being as I threw a fit when I saw the place was all cold white tile. I can understand why Farfello would need it, bloods a bitch to get out, but the rest of us don’t need to feel like we’re in a friggin hospital.

I need to piss.

I pad over to my door and unlock it, taking a quick peek to see if Crawford's waiting around the corner to kill me or something. Seeing that he is actually gone I step out into the hallway and wince at the coldness of the tile floor against my feet.

I hate silence. The sound of my footsteps are the only noise in the entire apartment. Annoyed, I begin to whistle loudly, it’s better than nothing. I reach the bathroom and wiggle the doorknob to find it locked.

“Helloooooooo!” Strange...I thought everyone was gone.

“What is it.”

Nagi.

“Nagi, I gotta piss. Now.”

“Oh! Hang on a minute...” he replies so softly I that have a hard time hearing him through the door. I press my ear to it and hear him shuffling around, putting things away. I laugh quietly when I hear something crash and a little frustrated noise escape Nagi’s throat. He’s so adorable when he’s angry, midnight eyes flashing and his tiny mouth trying to resemble a scowl but only achieving a cute pout.

“Umm...can you use Crawford’s?” he calls, obviously embarrassed. I hear him shuffle around some more.

I sigh. “All right...” I walk away and head towards Crawford’s room.

I hate his room. It’s so damn clean. It’s so damn white. He really needs to buy some pictures or something. I open the door to his bathroom and frown. Also white. Even the fucking shampoo bottle is white. I swear he does this solely to irritate me.

When I’m done with my business, I head back to my room only to see that Nagi is still in the bathroom.

“Nagi?”

“Hai?”

“Is something wrong?”

“No. Nothing.”

I smile sadly. Of course. Nagi never talks about his problems. He could be getting his leg ripped off my somebody and still say he was fine. I wish he’d open up...

“You’re lying. Let me in.”

He doesn’t say anything. I’d try and read his mind but he put a mental block up after the first day he met me. Smart kid.

“I’m not lying.”

“Bullshit.”

“Please, leave me alone.” It feels like a kick in the stomach, but I shake it off. I wish I was wanted..

“Nagi..are you masturbating in there?” I say coyly.

“NO!” he cries. I can tell he’s blushing.

“Oh..suuuure you aren’t Nagikins.”

“I’m not!!”

“Then why don’t you let me in?”

“...because”

Screw this. I kick the door open.

Nagi stares up at me in shock. He’s sitting on the edge of the tub with his shirt off and blood is slowly dripping down his arm and chest into the already stained waters. First aid equipment is strewn about the floor along with crumpled blood stained bandages. One of his frail hands grips a bottle of rubbing alcohol and the other a crimson tinted wad of cotton balls, which he drops when he sees me.

“Nagi!” I cry, my voice strangely filled with worry. “What happened to you?!”

He looks down at his feet. “..Nothing.”

“Nagi...” I walk towards him and sit down next the silent boy. “..please tell me.”

He stares at me in wonder, even I’m surprised at the gentleness in my voice. His eyes are so beautiful...

“When you we’re making that blonde Weiß boy cry...the one with the claw just went berserk. He came at me and just kept slashing me...He wouldn’t stop...” Nagi’s voice falters.

I want to cry. It was my fault. My fault Nagi was in pain. I take hold of one of his hands. It’s so small and delicate, I feel like I could break it if I held it too tightly.

“Gomen Nagi.” I whisper. “I didn’t mean for you to get hurt...”

“It’s not you fault..” he starts.

“Yes it is!!” I cry angrily. I feel the tears again. Second time today...

“Schuldich?” Midnight eyes stare up at me with curiosity. I smile softly at him and take the rubbing alcohol from him and bend over and pick up a clean roll of bandages.

“Let me help you.” I hear myself say. “There’s no way you can do this by yourself.”

A half-hour later I have Nagi covered in bandages and not a drop of blood in sight.

“There!” I exclaim, brushing my hands on my pants. “How do you feel my little mummy?”

“Hmm?” He gives me an adorably confused look and looks down at himself. He laughs and stares up at me with those gorgeous eyes. I cherish the sound...I rarely hear it.

“Arigato...” he says quietly, blushing a little. “I was having trouble trying to clean myself up.”

“I noticed.” I say, taking a glance at the trashcan filled with used bandages.

“Schuldich?” he tugs at my pant leg.

“Yeah kid?”

“Why did you run away today?”

I sigh. I can’t lie to those midnight eyes.

“Because that boy had something I didn’t have.”

“What?”

“Love.” I say simply.

“Love?” he asks quietly. I dig my hands into my pockets, avoiding his gaze.

“Yeah, love...something I’ll never have. And it made me jealous that he had so much of it. So..I ran away..” I hear myself choking up at the last words.

Dead silence follows. I wish he’d laugh, cough, say something.

My eyes dart up when I see him slowly stand up and walk towards me, his eyes looking uncertain.

I gasp quietly when I feel him hug me.

“Schuldich...maybe you have it..but you just don’t know it yet...” he says, his gaze slowly moving up to meet mine.

“Nagi?” I croak. This can’t be happening. This can’t be real. I’m not his lucky. This...

“Maybe someone loves you...but they’re scared to tell you...because they don’t know what you’d say..” he blushes furiously at the last comment and hugs me tighter as he buries his face into my chest.

I wrap my arms carefully around him, not wanting to injure him further.

“I’d say that I loved them too...” His head jerks up at me, his mouth slightly open in shock.

“I’d say how much I loved their adorable face, their quiet personality, their soft voice, their midnight eyes...”

His eyes fill with tears and he smiles up at me.

“I love you Schuldich...” he brings his face closer to mine.

“I love you too..” I lean into kiss him...but stop. I stare at his half-lidded eyes, filled with love, and tears fall down my cheeks. A fragile hand wipes them away softly.

“Is something wrong?” He stares up at me with concern. I shake my head and kiss him gently.

No, everything was right. Everything was so right.
