Shop Tips

  1. buy an impact screw driver for loosening any Phillips head bolt or you could use the proper screwdriver and push hard on it, put an adjustable wrench on the screw driver to loosen the screw
  2. get the proper high quality puller for removing flywheels (under $15)
  3. get rolls of gasket material from some place like Pep Boys or your local hardware store and cut them to shape to save money
  4. buy a torque wrench to tighten cylinder head bolts and other important ones
  5. do not over tighten bolts or they will break or strip the hole, just make them snug and use a little lock tight if you want
  6. often the only reason for an engine not starting is a dirty spark plug, even if the plug is not that old
  7. use a razor blade to clean up sun-bleached plastics (just try it)
  8. don't hammer on a connecting to get the crank unstuck, my friend did on a yz80 and two days later the top of the connecting rod broke off
