Bylaws: Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, Inc


Article I

Name

1. The name of this organization shall be: Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, Inc.


Article II

Authority

1. This shall be the guiding document for the organization. For parliamentary procedure purposes the organization shall use Robert's Rules of Order.


Article III

Purpose and Scope

1. The vision of the Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, Inc is a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community living openly in dignity united in working for acceptance and equality.

2. The guiding principles of the Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, Inc is:
a) We believe in the dignity and equality of all people
b) We believe in innovative thinking and responsible action
c) We believe those individuals who know or who are questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity deserve a safe, nurturing environment.
d) We believe in programs which educate, empower, and foster integrity.
e) We believe in celebrating diversity.
f) We believe in the importance of educating the community-at-large about issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
g) We believe in working collaboratively with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender organizations locally and nationally.


3. The mission of the Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, Inc shall is:
a) To provide space and programs that welcome the entire gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender community and our allies
b) To unite our community across lines of age, race, gender, and economics
c) To give visibility to the history, culture, and diversity of our community.
d) To organize and plan our political and cultural future.
e) To nurture new organizations and programs to meet emerging community needs.


4. The major goals of the Enid Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center are:
a) Establish and maintain a community center to serve Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals, people with HIV/AIDS, and those who support our communities in the area.
b) Acquire and secure a building to serve as a central home for the center.
c) Secure funding and implement responsible financial planning and management to insure the security of the center.
d) Provide and maintain the highest level of integrity, honesty, and respect in representing our GLBT family
e) Provide a safe and inclusive atmosphere for GLBT individuals and their allies.



Article IV

Government

1. The government of this organization shall be entrusted to the members, who shall elect a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

2. The membership shall hold regular monthly meetings. Special meetings may be called by the President, or 25 percent of the members.

3. The membership may delegate duties to whatever committees or individuals it designates; except that such committees and individuals must serve under the authority of and at the pleasure of the membership. The membership may if it wishes appoint an Executive Committee to carry out the day to day business of the organization.

4. A quorum shall consist of one-third of the organization membership. However, if 10 days written notice of the agenda is given to membership, then agenda items may be acted upon at a meeting with ten percent of the membership in attendance. No other business shall be acted upon unless one-third of the membership is present.

5. All organization members in good standing shall have the right to one vote at the election meeting. No officer of the organization may serve more than four consecutive terms in the same position. The membership may establish a nominating committee to present nominees at the election meetings. All officers shall serve two year terms. All officers shall be elected in April.


Article V

Members

1. Any member of the public is eligible for membership.

2. The organization may establish membership fees and dues.


Article VI

Amendments

Proposed amendments to these bylaws shall be made by a majority of chapter members voting.
