The village of Brandstatt is located on the Brandstaetter Bach and the Brandstaetter See, two places well-known for excellent fishing. Brandstatt village is less well-known, as is its reported special Notgeld issue. In the 1800s, Brandstatt wasn't even a village but a "Haus," meaning it was probably owned and worked by a single family. Today, the village is barely there, comprised of about 5 buildings. Brandstatt is part of the community of Pupping, which has several issues of both regular and special Notgeld. Brandstatt was supposed to have issued Notgeld in undisclosed amounts. Katalog Kunz in 1925 stated this but none have ever been seen. The note depicted here therefore may not be genuine. The issue came in denominations of 50, 60, 75, and 90 Heller and was printed on heavy stock card. All carry the designation "II. Spezial-Auflage." |
