In my search for sample plates, I went to the website of just about every state motor vehicle agency, as well as writing to them. I have taken the information I learned in this journey and put it on this webpage, to save other collectors from the same search.

In some states, the department of transportation runs this agency. In others, it is the department of revenue, or the department of state, or even the department of justice. I have listed direct links to each state’s homepage, and if the site mentions sample plates, a link to that page also. I also list the addresses and prices that I have found, whether from the official website, or through contact with the state dmv.
