This page is dedicated to my favourite character from The Lord of The Rings, Legolas. Just in case you're not too sure who he is, here's some information about him . .
Who
is Legolas Greenleaf?
A
woodland elf of Sindarin
heritage, Legolas Greenleaf is the son of Thranduil, King of the Elves in
Mirkwood.
How does he
look like?
Tolkien
never did quite specify how Legolas is supposed to be like, but we are told that
he is clad in brown and green clothing. Since Thranduil has golden hair, it is
assumed that Legolas has the same colour as well. It has also been described in
books that Legolas is fair, with sharp eyes and slender hands. Legolas also
carries a bow and a quiver of arrows, with a long white knife at his belt.
What does the name 'Legolas' means, & how old is he?
The
name Legolas brings forth a meaning of 'Green - Leaves' or 'Green Foliage'. His
age is of uncertainty, and there has been speculation that it is roughly the
same as Arwen, daughter of Elrond. If it were true, Legolas would more or less
be 2778 years of age.
When did he make his first appearance?
Legolas
first appears in Rivendell as a messenger from his father, to sit on the Council
of Elrond. He was later chosen to represent the Elves in the Fellowship.
Who plays the part of Legolas in the movie, The Lord of The Rings: The
Fellowship of the Ring?
The character of Legolas is played by Orlando Bloom. He has previously acted in
various films (for e.g: "Wild" staring Stephen Fry), and when he auditioned for the movie, he was almost
immediately cast into the role of Legolas.
Reasons why Legolas seems to be the object of appreciation of (mostly) girls in
the movie
He is an unusually gifted archer, with a killer aim.
He can see things from a mile off.
He is able to fight with swords and knives.
The way he poises himself with his bow and arrow is simply... *wow*
He loves nature and is able to ride a horse bareback
He is able to shoot with two arrows
His fighting moves are of elegance and grace
He recycles his arrows (by picking up the Orcs' arrows)
He sings! *wheeeee~*
He is purely gorgeous
