Does sponsorship really make a difference?
In a recent Childreach newsletter, I read about a man in Korea who was sponsored through PLAN International as a child, beginning in 1961.  Today he is 52 years old and a successful farmer with a family of his own.  Not only that, but he sponsors a child himself!  He is planning a trip to Africa to meet his foster child soon.
The story made me realize the enormous potential of child sponsorship.  Although some families inevitably fall through the cracks, others flourish with the help they receive.  After reading that story, I began to wonder if there were more former foster children now sponsoring kids of their own.  Shortly after, I learned about Katryna's mom!
Katryna's mom grew up in Hong Kong with 5 siblings.  Her father passed away when she was very young and her mother struggled to care for the family on her own.  When she was 6 years old, she received a sponsor through Christian Children's Fund.  The money from the program enabled Katryna's mom and uncle to go to school.  Today Katryna's mother sponsors 3 children of her own, and Katryna herself has 1 in Kosovo, 3 in Albania, and 1 in Peru!  Click here to see them.
If anyone else has a sponsorship success story, please email me!  I love happy endings!
