Shah Nawaz
with his mother, Bashira Bibi
Shah Nawaz lives in the  Punjab province of Pakistan.  He belongs to a large family, with siblings aged 1 to 13.  His father is 36 and his mother is 26 years old.  The community they live in is part of a feudal society; Shah's father, Abdul Razaq, is a farmer.  His mother stays at home with the children.  The family lives in a house made of unbaked bricks with a slate roof.  The house has electricity and the family's water, which comes from a hand pump out back, is clean and safe to drink.   Food is cooked on a wood-burning stove.  At 3 (almost 4)  years old, Shah is too young for school; most of his free time is spent with his best friends Altaf and Ilyas.  He has completed all his basic vaccinations.
From the Family Profile:
Plan has organized the residents here into a Community Forum of both men and women and "is now working to strengthen the capacity of this institution.  PLAN is facilitating communities to identify their problems and come up with plausible solutions for the usage and exploitation of local resources and knowledge."
From the Community Profile:
In light of September 11, Childreach/Plan began a drive to find sponsors for kids in Pakistan.  We thought about it and decided it was a good idea.  So 3 year old little Shah Nawaz became our third sponsored child!
