Original Title: The love you make. An insider's story of The Beatles
Spanish translation by Ariel Bignami
1983 by McGraw-Hill Book Company
Peter Brown was Executive Director of NEMS Enterprises, the Beatles' management company, and was closely associated with the group, in both business and personal life. He was John Lennon's best man when John married Yoko and still maintains a close personal relationship with the surviving Beatles.
Peter Brown was a personal assistant to Brian Epstein and The Beatles during the 1960s. He was a confidant to the Epstein family, and bore some resemblance to Brian in his looks and manner. (Their backgrounds were dissimilar; while Epstein's family were Jewish and affluent, Brown's family were Roman Catholic and lived modestly.) Brown was one of the few people to have direct contact with each Beatle, and know their daily whereabouts.
Brown was present at Paul and Linda McCartney's wedding at the Marylebone Registry office, London in 1969 and was also the witness at John Lennon and Yoko Ono's wedding in Gibraltar on 20 March 1969. Lennon immortalised Brown in a line from The Beatles' 1969 hit "The Ballad of John and Yoko" ("Peter Brown called to say 'You can make it OK, you can get married in Gibraltar near Spain'").
Brown later wrote this biography about his former employers. The book had the cooperation of all four former Beatles and was authorised by each member except Lennon (who had died in 1980). It contained a few previously-unrevealed details about their private lives, but was more notable for providing inside details to many familiar stories.
This book was the first of the "Kiss and Tell" books. The most depressing aspects of The Beatles' career have been stressed, the complicated and frustrating financial details of Apple brought to the fore and the private life of Brian Epstein exposed in the most unsavoury fashion.
