CHARLENE TILTON

Born in SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, on December 1, 1959, in a humble home where, when the baby was not even 2 months old, her father left mother and daughter on her own. At 3 years old, CHARLENE and her mum moved to HOLLYWOOD. She studied Drama and acted at the school plays, but had to get a job as a clerk in a clothes´ shop, awaiting the right chance.

At 17 she was hired for a small role in WALT DISNEY´s film FREAKY FRIDAY (directed by G. Nelson) thanks to the mediation of a young scriptwriter who came into the shop, JON MERCEDES.
“My first take at the set was really amazing - she stated - and made me realize how much I had to learn about the acting craft”. At the same time, in order to improve the family´s economy, she worked as a publicity model. With JON´s help, she got the part of precocious LUCY EWING on DALLAS : “I just knew that the role was for me”. Before that, she gueststarred on episodes of other shows like 8 IS ENOUGH and POLICE WOMAN.

On February 14, 1982 she married country-and-western singer JOHNNY LEE. His frequent on-tour absences caused the gradual estrangement of the couple, who announced their divorce on March 1984, allegating “irreconciliable differences”, after she gave birth to a baby girl she named CHERISH. On April, Monday 23 of the same year, CHARLENE arrived at El Prat Airport in BARCELONA from PARIS, to participate on next Tuesday´s evening ÀNGEL CASAS SHOW. At the press conference she gave, as well as on her TV interview, she euphorically declared that she would stay on DALLAS “until oil fields get dry”.

A few months later, when she thought would be re-newing her contract, found out that the producers had decided to write her off. Executive producer PHIL CAPICE remarked that LUCY had never been fully developed. Therefore, on the last episodes of Season 7, left a character that did not find her place in the EWINGS´ universe. She declared that “was fed up with LUCY”, though she had assured to “love her” on her interview, and believed in the success of a record called C´EST LA VIE, whose main theme she performed on the Catalan Show, so unluckily that she fell down on the stage...

It was precisely the recording of this song what put her in touch with Scotch musician NICKY CAPALDI, who, after a one-year courtship, would become her second husband. What made them click faster was religion, since both of them belonged to the Reborn Christians´ Sect.

Nowadays, CHARLENE TILTON, divorced again, with a grown-up daughter and her 1, 52 m height and long blond hair, has a new theatre and TV career ahead that may audiences forget about the character that made her famous.

“I have to attribute the huge success of DALLAS because we had this chemistry but it was LARRY keeping us all together and we really grew to love each other.”

CHARLENE ANSWERED TO PAM´S TWIN SISTER...
