Spring of ´87. Fights for audience reached the
outer space and attracted new beings. This time, a sort
of white aliens who cause the announced ending of
THE COLBYS as they abduct its main star, EMMA FALLON
SAMMS. Public and critics just can´t believe what
they´re seeing...as they didn´t, when BOBBY´s
death became a long nightmare of PAM´s, along with the
following 31 episodes.
- DYNASTY: The show producers
adopt the same politics than DALLAS, curiously: keeping
only the closest family members and no more famous
stars. The cliffhanger features ALEXIS´s accident when
her car falls into a river where she´s supposed to
get drawn. On the other side, MATTHEW (B. HOPKINS)
returns, after his defection before season 2, now with the
company of a tribe of Central American injuns, all with
top tie and tails, intending to take KRYSTLE away
with him...Before that, ADAM & DANA (L. HUNLEY) got
married, and LESLIE (T. GARBER) & CLAY found out they might
be brother and sister...incestuously.

FALCON CREST: Demented MELISSA drives down into the San
Francisco Bay, with baby KEVIN (MAGGIE´s son) and DAN FIXX
(B. CULLEN) aboard...After her go RICHARD & CHASE to try to
rescue them...but only the baby is saved and they keep
on underswimming. Meanwhile, ANGELA discovers thru
MEREDITH (J. BADLER) that RICHARD actually was her son, not
JACQUELINE´s (!!!), EMMA attempts suicide from the rooftop and
KIT/SKYLER (K. NOVAK) escapes on STAVROS´ jet with TONY
(J. SAXON) after confessing she had caused SAUNDERS´(R. STACK)
death instead of PETER. An embroiled cocktail of stars
and melodrama that miraculously worked, partly thanks
to the new look and the frenzied pace...

THE COLBYS: DYNASTY´s spin-off closes its 2nd and last
season with a plot that made history in the supersoap
world: FALLON´s abduction by a UFO (sic). The actress
would land on DYNASTY´s next season, amnesiac again and
recycled as JEFF´s wife. At the same time, PHILIP
(M. PARKS) kidnapped FRANCESCA, BLISS wanted to marry a
Russian ballet dancer and CHANNING told MILES about her
abortion. Everything really changed after FALLON COLBY´s
close encounter on the 3rd Kind...
- KNOTS LANDING: Ignoring the nonsense "dream"
excuse, the EWINGS from California keep BOBBY dead and
continue their "normal" life, as ABBY gravedigs her ex
lover PETER under a child park lot basement...which is
to be reopened. There is also the question: Who
killed PETER? Among the suspects, we find PAIGE, GREG,
ABBY and drug addict daughter OLIVIA. Meanwhile, VAL
loses another husband when BEN mysteriously abandons
her...KL writers played strong after the KATZMEN made that
big mistake: to get BOBBY back in such a far-fetched
way...
- DALLAS: After knowing she can birth a baby, PAM´s
car clashes into a butane-gas tanker
accidentally...Will she die in the explosion, only get face-burnt or
just disappear, like FALLON? Following the trail of
R. FOXWORTH, who left FC forever, V. PRINCIPAL, sick and tired
of her part, demanded a salary raise to avoid to get
her contract renewed. Thus, she got rid of her
character, retaken briefly by M. MICHAELS in upcoming
episodes. On that cliffhanger, JR lost E. Oil to JEREMY
(W. SMITHERS), after another frustrated terrorist attack on
Middle East thru mad mercenary BD CALHOUN (H. VON LEER).
SUE ELLEN, almost a different woman by request of the
star, took revenge on MANDY and sent her away from
DALLAS. ELLIE discovered CLAY had formerly had a heart
attack, JENNA gave birth to BOBBY´s illegitimate son,
LUKAS, as RAY made a commitment to become a real family
altogether.
The crisis was obvious, at least for the biggest
super soaps: the staff retailment affected DALLAS (PAM,
DONNA & MANDY were fired), DYNASTY (DOMINIQUE, LESLIE),
FALCON CREST (CHASE, PETER, KIT, TONY) & KNOTS LANDING
(LILIMAE & LAURA, both losses very heartily regretted by
the fans).
On next season, DALLAS would try to
delay as longer as possible the conclusion about VP´s
return, as quickly introduced new female stars like APRIL
(S.J. WILSON), LISA (A. STOCK), KAY (K. KOPINS), KIMBERLY
(L.T. YOUNG) and, at the end of the season, even C.TILTON was back as LUCY. Other well-known names were
J. SCALIA, A. STEVENS, or H. DUFF.
About the rivals, KL
still relied on luxury and celebrities, like M. YORK, R.
BUTTONS & M. PHILLIPS, who eventually would become a
regular part and a great asset as ANNE
MATHESON.
DYNASTY absorbed (not abducted) JEFF & FALLON after THE
COLBYS passed away, and later on they would do the same
with MILES, SABLE & MONICA. Only Irish S. HEALEY (a new
husband for ALEXIS) would join the main cast.
FALCON CREST increased the number of guest stars even
overshadowing the main stars: L. CARON, U. ANDRESS, L. HUTTON &
EDDIE ALBERT were a few of them. But the interest of
the audience was declining and the end of an age was
coming, as the 80´s passed and people´s likes
evolved...
