BLACK DYKE MILLS BAND SINGLES.
APPLE RECORDS

The first North American APPLE single was by Black Dyke Mills Band, a traditional British brass band, issued with YELLOW SUBMARINE as the "A" (green) side (copies pressed in Los Angeles for a time), released on August 26, 1968. It is very hard to find. A repress was released in 1968 with YELLOW SUBMARINE as the "B" side and THINGUMYBOB as the "A" side, a Lennon-McCartney compostion. Copies can be found which credit the authorship to McCartney-Lennon. Apropos enough since Paul wrote the song and produced the record.

The Black Dyke Band, formerly the Black Dyke Mills Band, is one of the oldest (since 1855, by Foster) and best known brass bands. A brass band is a musical group consisting mostly of brass instruments, often with a percussion section. It was formerly the band of the Black Dyke Mills in Queensbury, a company owned by John Foster. Queensbury is a village in the metropolitan borough of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The band has won many prizes and competitions over the years. In 1967 they were the champion band of Great Britain. And in 1968, they released a brass band version of The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" on Apple Records, under the name John Foster & Sons Ltd. Black Dyke Mill Band. The single, backed with "Thingummybob", was produced by Paul McCartney; it was one of the first four singles released on Apple.
