Forums for Jewish Women
Eshet Chayil
Background

There are forums on the Jewish and Hebrew groups for every Jew.

However, some Jewish topics, such as those to be raised on Eshet Chayil, should not be discussed in open or mixed forums.

Eshet Chayil is moderated by a woman. Men are asked to refrain from joining the group. If you are a man and you have joined this group by mistake, please unsubscribe from the group at this time.

Eshet Chayil was started because of a demand from a number of women, but we always thought that it would fit in with the other Jewish groups in the series. The only difference was to be the fact that Eshet Chayil would have a woman moderator.

However, two very distinct groups of women developed in the discussions.

One group of women wanted to be able to discuss any topic that might arise. They felt more comfortable talking with women, and they didn't want to be restricted to the topics. They ultimately coalesced into a new group, Tisha Kabin.

The other group of women wanted to have a serious forum which would relate to topics that could not be discussed in public forums together with men. These women remained in the Eshet Chayil forum.

Strangely, neither group could understand the need or purpose for the existence of the other group. Each side presented valid and justifiable reasons for conducting the group in their own way.

This seemingly fine distinction made the essential differences between the two groups.

We therefore set up a second, parallel group. Our goal was clear and simple - we wanted to make everybody happy.

This web page is about Eshet Chayil. On Eshet Chayil, every message which makes its way through the moderation relates to specific women's topics. Those topics cannot be discussed in groups that include men.

Eshet Chayil also has a series of rules such as refraining from "me-too" messages that have no additional content. Those rules are relaxed in Tisha Kabin. As a result of this posting limitation and others, many messages will not be able to get through. Some women may be offended by this policy. They may prefer the more open atmosphere in Tisha Kabin.

Who is the moderator?

David Grossman, the owner (but not the moderator) of this group, is involved in the general administrative aspects of the group. He does not take part in the ongoing discussions.

Miriam Grossman is the moderator of both Eshet Chayil and Tisha Kabin. The last names of the owner and moderator may look similar. That's because Miriam is Dovid's wife.

The moderated Eshet Chayil Forum will have a limited and reasonable number of postings. We won't overwhelm your emailbox.

We hope that you will enjoy and benefit from your participation in Eshet Chayil.
