CLUB ACTIVITIES | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MEETING THEME | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Club activities include educational and social activities. They include activities such as gemstone jewelry making, mineral collecting and mounting, mineralogy and geology studies. Rock hunting field trips are organized during the spring and summer, weather permitting. Club membership is of particular interest to those individuals with an interest in the earth sciences and lapidary work. The club provides a lapidary workshop along with instructions to all members. New members are allowed to attend one free workshop session and if they wish to continue there is a $50 shop fee for 12 sessions of instruction in basic lapidary techniques. These 12 sessions are offered twice per year; one starting in the last week of September and ending in the third week of December, the second starting in the Third week of January and ending on the second week of April. The classes are held once a week at the St. Albert, Alberta shop location. The club also holds seminars and workshops on various subjects related to the hobby such as silversmithing and wire wrapping. The fees for this vary depending on the subject being presented and materials being used. For more detailed information either email edz@telus.net or phone Ed or Pauline at (780) 430 6694. |

Visitors are welcome to attend the meetings and enquire about the club. Near the beginning of the new season the membership decides on the "theme" for each meeting for the year. The meetings are usually composed of three parts. Part 1: at the beginning of the meeting there is a "Show and Tell" where the members display and talk about the "theme" items they brought to the meeting. Part 2: a lapidary related presentation is made by a guest speaker or club member. Part 3: the business part of the meeting is conducted. Just before the business part of the meeting starts there is usually a coffee break with snacks. Here the membership socializes and exchanges ideas, techniques and points of interest. The next meeting is on Monday, January 16 at 7:00 pm. The theme of the meeting is stones or gems which are white or clear. Bring to tne meeting things that fit this category and give us a little bit of information about each one. White or clear was chosen for this meeting's theme because up until Friday, January 13/06 there is virtually no snow and the weather has been un-seasonably very warm. Possibly this choice of theme may influence the weather makers. Surprisingly, people are hoping for alot of snow so that winter activities can be done. But ofcourse, we do not want the warm weather to disappear and be replace by the typical cold weather!! Come to the meeting on Monday and enjoy the exchange of information and the comraderie of the club members. |
