A Closer Look At Extinction
This table shows the recorded extinctions of wildlife in different habitats specifically mainlands, islands and the oceans. The largest number of species extinct in a single area are flowering plants on the mainlands and the second largest are flowering plants on islands. However, these numbers do not reflect a large impact on the entire number in the group as a whole because it has so many species within it.The smallest number of species extinctions are in the oceans because most plants and animals are not adapted well enough to survive in the oceans.
This graph shows that the main causes of extinction are unknown. The second largest cause of extinction is due to the introduction of new species into an environment. This causes competition in an area, limiting the amount of food for each organism, making it more difficult to survive.
