How does FSU have that high winning percentage year after year? It's simple. They play in the ACC (Almost Competitive Conference.) Every year they get to play Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, and Wake Forest. That's eight guaranteed victories right there. Florida State could probably start their second-string players against these eight opponents, and still win every game by 50 points or more. Throw in one non-competitive non-conference game, and two meaningful games against Miami and Florida, and you have Florida State's 2001 schedule. Florida State is practically assured of making it into a BCS bowl game based on their nine guaranteed wins (the ACC plus one non-competitive non-conference opponent.) If Florida State gets lucky and beats either Miami or Florida, they're in the BCS title game playing for the national championship. |
