When I was young, I used to dream of building a railroad in our backyard. The idea grew from a hand-crank train called a Yardbird. I used to look at the ad for it and dream of it running around our backyard on Mayfair Avenue in Orange. George Templin built a modified version of the Yardbird... |
It never became a reality...my uncle drew me pictures of the railroad he'd built in his backyard when he was small...called the Pee Wee Railroad. The track was made of wood, as were the cars. The were centered on the narrow track with a cam-shaped device. Cars were pushed along on the track with sticks. |
In 2001, I was chatting with June Hess, owner of Svensk Butik in Kingsburg. She mentioned her son-in-law built small, ride-on trains. Thus began our relationship with Roll Models Incorporated, Fresno, CA. |
