Minutes from June 7, 2003, were approved as distributed.
The agenda was changed to start with reports, since some of the members would have to leave early.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Historians: Moreno and Deanna Balantac will bring the Historian Binder to the August 30 museum benefit.
October Awards Nominations Committee: Deanna and Moreno announced that four nominations were received prior to the July 1 deadline. No other nominations will be accepted. One posthumous award will also be presented to the family of an awardee at the October 18 event.

Fundraising: Violet Dutra distributed tickets to sell for the Aug. 30 museum fundraiser to members present who asked for tickets. Sue Mangrobang offered to head a telephone tree committee and call members to encourage ticket sales. Vangie Kilmer volunteered to be on the committee. The deadline for reservations is August 22 in order for enough food to be ordered. Mel will be making the arrangements for food.
Tickets for the October 18 Awards event will be distributed at the September 6 meeting. Anyone with vintage hats are asked to loan them for decorations, together, if possible, with the copy of a photograph of someone wearing a similar hat.
Norma Espiritu described the Fifteenth International Goodwill concert tour of the University of the Philippines choir and the successful presentation co-sponsored earlier this year in Stockton by FILMAPS (Filipino Medical And Allied Professionals Society). The group will be returning from Europe soon, with a possibility of a repeat concert. She suggested that a similar fundraising effort be held for the museum fund. There is a possibility of raising over $25,000. It was moved and seconded (N. Espiritu/D. Balantac) to accept the concept of a museum fundraiser for October 28 or 29, 2003, using the University of Philippine concert choir as the headliner. Motion passed. Norma will coordinate the event and make arrangements for publicity, etc., and work with our chapter and other organizations to get sponsors and sell tickets for the event.
OFFICERS REPORTS:
Secretary Violet Dutra circulated the Sister City flyer, the Central Valley FANHS and Sacramento FANHS newsletters, and a flyer describing "Through My Father's Eyes" exhibit in Sacramento from July 5 to August 31, 2003, with a reception to be held on August 16. Other notices circulated: Rex Navarrete live in Stockton "The Thrilla in Little Manila 2 (the Rematch)" on August 22, 2003, 7:00 P.M., at Civic Auditorium, $15.00, to benefit the Little Manila Foundation; 31st Barrio Fiesta, August 9 and 10, 2003 at Filipino Plaza.
Treasurer Virgie Melear was ill, no report available. Violet reported that this month a check for $28.78 was received from iGive for purchases made through the Internet by FANHS members. [All members with internet access are urged to use iGive for internet purchases whenever possible.]
Anita and Violet reviewed the success of Filipino Friendship Day on June 14 at which event FANHS set up an educational booth, which was well viewed. Anita reported that she, Virgie Melear, and Bob Cabigas attended the PCHA Fiesta in Hercules on June 21. They set up a FANHSing and informational table at no cost to our chapter. Several new members joined as a result of seeing the exhibit.
Vice President Med LaGasca updated those present on the Museum Project. He plans to resume the monthly museum project committee meetings soon. In the first week of September he will submit the business plan for review to the committee of the Small Business Development Center at San Joaquin Delta College. He reported that the Bay Area FANHS chapters have met and plan to assist Stockton on the Project, also.
NEW BUSINESS:
Anita reported on the Library of Congress Veteran's History of Combat Veterans Project. She felt that at this time it would not be practical to be involved; too time consuming.
The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon. The next meeting will be held on September 6, 2003, at Dameron Hospital Conference Room A (basement) at 10:00 A.M.
