In the past twenty years, great improvements have been made in the treatment of breast cancer. Fortunately these improvements allow breast cancer patients to live for at least 10 years after their diagnosis. Although each woman’s treatment can be slightly different, it usually involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and/or trastuzumab (Herceptin). Deciding on a which treatment corresponds with each woman is as much a personal matter for women as it is a medical one.
