5) Black Jade A miniature rose that is dark red, reportedly about the same shade as Ink Spots. Grows to a height of between 15"-18". Grows well in pots or in the ground. May need protection during the winter. Zones 5-10. |
6) L.D. Braithewaite A newer English rose variety with a compact growth sieze of 90-120cm. Has a strong fragrance and double blooms. May require protection in winter for colder climates. |

10) Souvenir du Dr. Jamain Hybrid Perpetual, deep burgundy, with some purple. Can grow to 7'x10'. Very fragrant. |
11) Cardinal de Richelieu A dark purple Gallica rose. Full double blooms during the summer. Hardy variety. |
12) Papa Meilland Hybrid tea variety. Very fragrant. Grows to about 4'x3'. Velvet dark red in color. |
13) Nightmoss A new deep purple hybrid from a cross between a Nuits de Young and a Tuscany Superb. Grows to a height of between 4'-5'. Strong fragrance. Good for zones 5-8. |
14) William Lobb Soft violet-grey to purple in color. Blooms of between 3'-4' across. May reach a height of 8'-10' in suitable climates. Has thick thorns that are dense in configuration |
15) Black Bacarra A new variety. Almost black when budding, then blooms to a deep bluish-black to burgundy-black. Has no fragrance. Stem between 50-70cm in height. |
16) Hocus Pocus Dark crimson with splashes of yellow. An unusual species, but worth growing for the name alone. |
