Email Dr. Khalid Kamal at khalidk@wol.net.pk to be added to the Interesting Pediatric Cases list.

Examples of some of the cases:

CASE 1:
This 10 year old was admitted in the FJMC ward with an acute history of this rash and fever the rash is unmistakable: meningo coccemia.
The prognosis is good if the condition is diagnosed early and treatment
started with third generation cephalosporins (acc. to recent studies)
Steroids may be required if there is shock.
Adrenal gland hemorrhage may occur.
Meningitis may occur
This patient had severe hypoglycemia as well.

CASE 2:
Wilm's Tumor:

A case of Wilm's tumor in a 20 year old female was described in CPC by Prof MH Randhawa. The case was interesting because Wilm's tumor is usually seen in young children. The patient presented with flank pain, hematuria and weight loss. The diagnosis was done with the help of a  CT scan and  biopsy.

As can be seen the tumor may have different histological features. The cut surface is variegated. The prognosis is variable and depends on stage and histological grade.
As pointed out by Prof Randhawa the tumor carries a better prognosis in
adults as compared to in children. The treatment is surgical excision, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
