Brief History Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women was founded in 1948, just a year after the birth of our country, when the need for immediate establishment of an institution to train women in the medical profession was recognized. The Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave his blessings and approved the name of his sister Fatima Jinnah, who helped in the formation of Pakistan, to be associated with this college. Fatima Jinnah Medical College proudly admitted its first batch of 39 students in October, 1948. Since then it has been training women from not only all over Pakistan but also from the entire Muslim world, as well as all western nations. The first principal of the college was Professor Shujaat Ali. The present principal is Professor Dr. Akbar Chaudhary. The teaching hospital attached to FJMC, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (550 beds), is currently being extended on 22 kanals and will provide another 400 beds, insha'Allah. The name of this new hospital will be Fatima Jinnah Hospital. The faculty of FJMC is both male and female, all being highly-qualified in their respective fields. The college has well-equipped laboratories, an air-conditioned dissection hall, lecture theatres with audio-visual equipment, anatomy and pathology museums, clinical academic rooms, a well-stocked library, and an auditorium.
