Joey Barnes
Joey Barnes, a television actor, is a night club comedian on The Joey Barnes Show, a talk show which was filmed on studio 6-H. Joey is a happily married man who lives at the Carlton Arms, 1 West 72nd Street Apt. 711, in Manhattan, New York with his wife Ellie Barnes. Joey's agent was Freddy in the fall of 1962, and in early 1963, Larry Corbett became his new agent as well as his manager and writer. Joey often cracks jokes at his maid Hilda who says she dislikes his tv show even though she does not, but would never tell him. Joey is often visited by Mr. Jillson the superintendant, who always came to the Barnes' apartment to fix things. Joey's catchphrase is "Son of a Gun!"


Ellie Barnes
Ellie Barnes, married Joey Barnes on September 15, 1962 and is very jealous of him. Ellie was born and raised in Texas, and is often homesick for Texas. She is a feminist and once went on Joey's TV show and represents women in politics. Ellie hired Hilda to be the Barnes' maid and would not let Joey fire her when he got mad at her and wanted to do so. Before she married Joey, Ellie was a model, and once went back to modeling without telling Joey. Ellie and Joey have a baby boy on May 11, 1963 named Joey Barnes, Jr. and a baby girl on March 23, 1965.


Freddy
Freddy is Joey Barnes' manager and the two have been good friends since they were children. Freddy is single and always notices a pretty female. Freddy is loud with a serious personality, often imitating animals and famous people, while also occasionally cracking jokes . Freddy eat meals often with Joey and Ellie even though he was not invited but was expected anyway. Freddy unexpectedly leaves without warning or explanation in early 1963, never to be seen again.


Larry Corbett
Larry Corbett is Joey Barnes' writer/agent/manager and the two have been good friends for years. Like Freddy, Larry was also single and is always looking for a pretty girl. Joey and Ellie often have Larry over for the daily meals. Larry makes jokes all the time in a quite and serious manner. He once considered marriage to Liz, a friend of Ellie's, but the relationship ends after some bad advice from Ellie and Joey.


Mr. J.J. Jillson
Mr. Jillson, more commonly called the superintendent of the Carlton Arms apartment building in which The Barnes' lives. He and his wife Mrs. Jillson live in the basement of the Carlton Arms apartment building, where he is always on call to fix things. Mr. Jillson talks about his wife constantly like he dislikes her but deep down he really love her. Mrs. Jillson is constantly screaming at Mr. Jillson through the ventilator from their apartment to the Barnes's, startling him. Mr. Jillson wins contests and has many types of animals in his apartment. He also loves cinnamon rolls that he can not pronounce.


Hilda, The Maid
Hilda is hired by Ellie to be the Barnes' maid. She later also becomes Joey, Jr. nanny. She and Joey make jokes at each other alot like they dislike each other, even though they like each other a whole lot. There was never a reference to her last name or personal life.


Joey Barnes, Jr.
Is the son of Joey and Ellie Barnes. He was born on May 11, 1963.
