Ricardo Biography
Ricky Ricardo, was
born Enrique Alberto Ricardo y de Acha
III in Havana, Cuba. Ricky was raised in
Cuba by his Uncle Alberto. Ricky's father
gives him lots of advice on life in which
he tells his wife Lucy. Ricky has five
brothers and his mother is a great singer
and dancer. Ricky got the part in a
Broadway play "Too Many Girls."
He also worked at the Copacabana. Ricky
met and married Lucille McGillicuddy at
the Byram River Beagle Club in Greenwich,
Connecticut.
Ricky and
Lucy are very happily married although
Lucy tries to get into his shows at the
Tropicana Night Club where he works. In
1952 he became the manager of the club
until he buys it in 1956 and renames it,
The Club Babalu. "Babalu" is
Ricky's most popular song which he sings
often.
Ricky's best
friend is Fred Mertz the landlord who is
a generation older than Ricky. Ricky and
Fred love to watch the fights, play poker
with Charlie and Hank, and play golf on
occasions.
In the winter
of 1953 Ricky became a father when his
wife Lucy gave birth to a son, Little
Ricky. In the fall of 1954 Ricky got a
Hollywood movie deal so he, Lucy and the
Mertzes head off for California. Ricky's
movie deal about Don Juan was halted,
shelved and never heard of again.
Upon
returning to New York in the fall of 1955
Ricky goes on tour in Europe with his
band. Lucy and the Mertzes go along as
well. After returning to New York in 1956
Lucy wanted to move to the country, so
the Ricardos move to Connecticut in the
fall of 1957. This causes Ricky to
commute back and forth from Connecticut
to New York.
