Summary
Ricky and
Lucy Ricardo, a happy middle-classed
couple, reside at 623 East 68th Street in
a reconverted Brownstone Apartment
Building. The apartment building is owned
by Fred and Ethel Mertz, who become The
Ricardo's best friends as well as
landlords.
Lucille "Lucy" Esmerelda
McGillicuddy, who was born in Jamestown,
New York and Ricky Ricardo, born in Cuba
first met when Lucy went on a cruise to
Havana, Cuba. The two fell in love, Ricky
follows her back to America and in 1940
the couple married at the Byram River
Beagle Club in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The Ricardo's first child, Little Ricky,
was born January 19, 1953. The Mertzes
become his godparents.
Ricky, a very successful conga
bandleader, works at the Tropicana
Nightclub, which he later purchases and
renames The Club Babalu. Ricky sings his
trademark song, Babalu on a regular
basis. Lucy, who greatly wants to become
a star, often interferes with Ricky's
job, when she sneaks into many of his
performances, making a mess of things.
Lucy does many of these hilarious schemes
with her best friend, Ethel Mertz, right
along with her, some even when Ethel
wants no part of them. Lucy and Ethel are
also in many other situations that have
nothing to do with Ricky's nightclub
acts.
In the fall of 1954, The Ricardos, The
Mertzes, and Mrs. McGillicuddy travel to
California, for Ricky's big movie deal.
They then return to New York and in the
fall of 1955 Ricky, Lucy, Fred, and Ethel
head off to Europe for Ricky's tour of
Europe. The two couples then return to
New York in the spring of 1956. In the
fall of 1956 when Lucy wants to move to
the country, the Ricardos buy a house in
Westport, Connecticut and move from the
city. Not long afterward the Mertzes
follow the Ricardos to Connecticut and
move into the Ricardo's guesthouse. Then
over the years, the couples travel to
other countries such as Japan and Mexico.
