- November 8, 1920, in Pompano Beach, Florida.
College - in 1942, she graduated from
Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Broadway - in the 1960s, she was a
member of the Negro Ensemble Company, spending a
lot of time on the New York stage.
"One Life to Live" -
in 1971, she appeared briefly on the soap opera
One Life to Live.
"Maude" - starred as
Maude's maid, Florida Evans, on the television series
"Maude." She first appeared in episode
#3 "Maude Meets Florida" on September
26, 1972, and was last seen in episode #42
"Florida's Goodbye" which aired
February 5, 1974.
"Good Times" - she
starred as Florida Evans, in the
"Maude" spin-off series, "Good
Times." The series ran from February 1, 1974
to September 13, 1980, producing 133 episodes.
Emmy Award - won an Emmy Award
for her supporting role in the film "Summer
of My German Soldier."
Death - November 17, 1998 in Los
Angles, California, of complications from
diabetes.
