#1 "Maude And The Psychiatrist"

When Carol comes home wearing dark glasses, Maude knows something is wrong. Carol finally tells Maude that she has been going to a psychiatrist about her dominating mother. When Maude goes to talk to Carol's psychiatrist she leaves the office upset that she has been a dominating mother, just like her own mother.

Phillip has been caught "playing" doctor with Arthur's granddaughter, causing friction between, grandparents Maude & Arthur. Arthur demands that Phillip be punished, but Maude doesn't think so, she sees the human body as being "beautiful." Walter comes home drunk and proves Maude wrong when he shows Maude and Carol his "beautiful" body by stripping.

Maude hires a new maid, Florida Evans. Florida says that she will take the job but that Maude will be on trial to see if she stays. At the end of the week, Florida has decided to quit because Maude pampers her too much. Carol and Walter talk Florida into talking with Maude and settling the disagreement. The two come to an agreement that Maude will not tell Florida what to do.

Maude takes this the wrong way thinking it is a compliment. Maude then finds out that he called her Maude while they were fighting.

#6 "The Ticket"

A young, motorcycle cop chases Maude home for speeding. Maude denies speeding, but still receives the ticket and if proven guilty will lose her license. Arthur says he can get the ticket fixed but Maude refuses his help. Maude defends herself in court, and faced with a judge who wants the case to be thrown out while Maude fights for her right to have a trial.

Although Carol is not in love with George, she feels that she needs a husband and Phillip needs a father. Carol finally decides not to marry George.

Maude, Walter, and Arthur are watching the 1972 election, Nixon vs. McGovern on TV. Maude remembers the 1968 election, Nixon vs. Humphrey, when she and Walter were dating and Walter proposes. Maude fearing another divorce says no. She proposes that she and Walter live together instead. They break up, getting back together when Maude agrees to marry and Walter agrees to live together.

Walter is eating chicken when Maude finally gets the nerve to tell him, resulting in him choking on a chicken bone. Walter tells Maude they will work things out.

When Maude finds out that she has never gotten married, she tries to show Phyllis how great her marriage is, and what a great daughter she has. Phyllis gets mad at Maude for bragging about how great her life is and tells Maude, that she does not want a life like hers.

Carol informs Maude that there is man picketing outside their house, carrying a sign stating "That A Slum Lord Lives Here." Maude is shocked because she is liberal. She then remembers that Walter has an apartment building and figures that it is a tenement. Walter then tries to get rid of his real estate, by trying to sell it to Arthur, but he does not want it.

Maude and Walter stay at the sleazy, John Smith motel, while at an appliance dealer's convention in Massachusetts. While there, Maude feels that she is nobody, just Mrs. Walter Findlay. At the convention while accepting his award, Walter refers to Maude as his "little woman." Offended by this they argue all night at the motel, before finally making up.

Walter is depressed about turning 50. Maude invites his oldest friend Floyd Crowley to cheer him up. Walter is so excited when Floyd arrives until Floyd suddenly dies. Walter then becomes even more depressed, but by Arthur's advice, Maude brings Walter out of his depression by showing him affection.

Arthur and Jane really hit it off, but when Maude decides to patch things up between Jane and her daughter Linda, Linda tries to steal Arthur away. The daughter is doing this because Jane refuses to give Linda money owed to her that her father left her at his death.
