After a night of heavy drinking, Maude wakes up in bed with Arthur. Maude, Walter, and Arthur vow they will not drink for a month. Walter breaks the vow, which results in Maude drinking also, and getting drunk. The drunken Findlays discuss whether Walter has a drinking problem. When drunken Walter destroys Phillip's birthday cake, Maude discovers Walter has a problem. Walter does not agree and becomes enraged, and slaps Maude.

Walter arrives home not noticing the change, upsetting Maude.

She finally figures out where she has seen him, he attempted to rape her thirty-one years ago on a date. Against Walter's wishes, Maude confronts him and he still denies knowing her. Maude then reenacts the incident, causing him to remember, but differently.
