ill with the flu, Edith calls her cousin
Maude for help, against Archie's wishes.
When spirited and outspoken Maude
arrives, she fusses over everyone but
Archie. Archie and Maude both make no
secret of the dislike for each other,
while disagreeing and arguing over
everything, especially politics.

executives...
loved the character Maude Findlay in "Cousin
Maude's Visit" and felt that the character
could make it on her own. So CBS had Norman Lear
contract Beatrice Arthur to star in the new
series "Maude" in which he created. The
"Maude" pilot aired as "All In The
Family" 's episode:
