Maude
Findlay an independent, liberal and outspoken
woman lives in Tuckahoe, New York with her fourth
husband Walter Findlay, proud owner of Findlay's
Friendly Appliances. Also residing at the Findlay
residence is Maude's divorced and only daughter,
Carol Traynor, and eight-year-old grandson,
Phillip.
Together the Findlays face many issues, a few
being, Maude's abortion in November 1972, her
face-lift in October 1973, and hysterectomy in
1974, as well as Walter's alcoholism in September
1973 and bankruptcy in October 1976.
Widower Dr. Arthur Harmon, Walter's best friend
of many years, is the Findlays next neighbor. On
January 29, 1974, Arthur marries Vivian Cavender,
Maude's best friend of many years and the couples
remain close friends and neighbors.
Maude hires three different maids between 1972
and 1977. First being Florida Evans, a blunt and
straight to the point, black woman. Florida was
hired on September 26, 1972 and quits on February
5, 1974. Seven months later Maude hires Mrs. Nell
Naugatuck, a boozing, blunt, British woman on
September 30, 1974. When Mrs. Naugatuck quits on
March 28, 1977, Maude then hires Victoria
Butterfield, a St. Norman heritage, black woman
on April 4, 1977. |
