This is a letter that I sent to the Aldermans and Mayor of EdmontonI love the river valley in Edmonton because of its numerous cycling trails but outside of this gorgeous area we do not have much to offer to cyclists. I, for one prefer to ride on the sidewalk. It is too dangerous to ride on the road especially around the 112 ave where I live. I came back from Quebec and we are not even close to what they offer to cyclists as far as amenities are concerned. I was in a small town on the Southshore of Montreal called La prairie, a not so rich town in a not so rich province. The cycling trails on the road were divided by many posts with reflectors separating the cars from the cyclists and they were also stop signs and marked lanes just for the cyclists. It will be nice if we can offer this kind of service instead of putting a bike sign in a road like we do in Edmonton. This city has much work to do in catching up with other cities friendly to cylists. I hope the people who were killed lately in Edmonton had nothing to do with the lack of bike trails in this city.
This is the responses that I got from City HallGood Afternoon Mr. Candido,Thank you for taking the time to e-mail Council with your concern.
