We came to Southend-on-Sea in the summer of 1985. After we spent a few days in downtown London, we needed a break from the chaos. We wanted to see the sea. On the map, the town looked relatively close to London. We took the train at the Victoria station and left for the seaside resort. It's located 65 km from the city on the north side of the Thames estuary.

Apparently this place was a popular place to be during the Georgian era. We did not see to many signs of the times.

We were not disappointed, me and my friend Dave Bodaly enjoyed walking on the old pier the longest of its kind in the world at 2158 meters. The view of the North sea was calming for the soul. The roses by the trail were amazing. It was truly a relaxing day.
