INTERVIEW WITH MARK RICHARDSON
8/12/04
This is an interview I did with Mark Richardson way back in late 2004, that year Feeder were recording the follow-up to the platinum selling "Comfort In Sound", and played one UK gig at the Hammersmith Apollo on the 1st May, which was a total sellout.

When Grant and Taka were in Japan, Feederweb did a competition to meet Mark at Feederweb's HQ, I happened to be one of two winners with a guy called Charles, who also went to a few other gigs as myself!.

Mark as usual was his hillarious down to earth self, and really enjoyed the day talking to us, as well as answering fans questions in a Feederweb webchat in hillarious replies!.

Candida from Feederweb arranged the competition, with her colleauge Kat in the office as well!. I met her at the Werchter festival shortly after Feeder played :-).

Anyways here's the interview!, typed up by my friend Grace who I was working on a fanzine with which didn't quite take off as planned, and she was the editor of the fanzine. The interview went into the one and only issue, but this website will form part of a webzine based on the fanzine, with Grace and I in charge!.

Hope you enjoy it! :-)

Many thanks to Feederweb, Mark and everyone else who made this possible!

Marc

What sort of B-sides should we expect to see on the forthcoming ‘Pushing The Senses’ album and what is your personal favourite and why?

Mark

B-sides I don’t know! Grant tends to go into the studio in North London some where and comes out like a week later with about 15 million songs! So they generally, the B-sides, come from those sessions. A lot of them will be separate songs that he has written for that purpose.

My favourite track is this one…’Pilgrim Soul’…coz I get to rock like a mother!!!

Marc

Out of all the gigs you played with Feeder, which one was your favourite?

Mark

The first one, I can’t remember a thing about it coz I was just so nervous! I loved that gig – I was scared sh*tless, I don’t know why. I suppose I hadn’t played for a while. I’m thinking of going back there as far as I’m concerned so it wasn’t so much the size of the crowd – it was the emotion involved, the feelings where like huge – it was really intense. It was hard to contain all that, so when I got on stage it is like a release of most things when I play. I can’t remember much about it really.

Marc

Which bands have influenced you and why?

Mark

When I was growing up, a long time ago (!), I used to play along to Rock music in my bedroom. From the age of like nine or ten I was a massive Iron Maiden fan so I just used to play along to Iron Maiden records. Also all the classics really like Bon Jovi and Led Zeplin, Nirvana – they just blew me away really, Soundgarden – there’s so many great bands! The Police, The Who, Clash – so much great music it’s hard to remember – that’s basically, pretty much it.
