Industrial Frist Aid Kit

My Third Year brief was to design the optimal First Aid Kit for an Industrial Market. SWOT Analysis of current kits highlighted several key issues that would have to be addressed in a comercially successful Industrial First Aid Kit, these being:     - Compartmentalising products within kit so        items can be easily found     - Ease of reordering products as this is where        most revenue is gained     - Easy access to most commonly used items        i.e. Plasters      - Ease of transporting to casualty

Concept generation explored innovative, alternative methods of improving the accessability of the Kit initially through annotated sketches and later in basic 3D modelling methods.  This quickly allowed the principals behind the concepts to be explored in practical terms.  Each concept was then evalutated against a set of weighed criteria in order to select the final concept for detailing.

At the same time the human issues surronding such a product could not be ignored.  The environment in which it was to be used was examined and results used to further develop the product specification. The product's use needed to be intuitive be used by all and used with minimal input from the user.  All such considerations were subtly integrated into the design to produce a superior product .

The detailing stages of the design process required investigation into the legeslative issues associated with First Aid in the workplace.  The results of this placed stringent restrictions on material selection and product aesthetics. Attention was paid to achieving a design that was economic in manufacture. This was achieved as far as possible through the integration of parts, design for tooling orientation and the use of standard components.

The key features of the Kit are:     -  Pilferproof plaster dispenser on front     -  Adjustable compartment size making        products easy to find and securely stored     -  Colour coded product with clearly        marked serial numbers facilitating easy        reordering     -  First Aider Alert system on removal from        mounting unit.     -  Single handed operation
