From my youth a love so fair,
as if by chance, floating in air;
landing in my heart a seed,
knowing just what my life would need.
Easy at friendship, first awkward at love,
but friendship wasn't quite enough.
The uneasy became the most desirable way
to consume the hours of every day.
The awkward became me without you,
like socks in rain without the shoe.
Time away like a steam engine without coal,
a wandering body without a soul.
You are my center, my joy abounding;
a song that's loud, quite astounding,
putting love in my beating heart,
making life a work of art.
I'm forever grateful for us,
one another,
My life-long friend,
my husband, my lover.
