Chapter 40

Buffy was doing her thing on the TV screen. Another demon bit the dust, but the couple on the couch could care less. Nick looked down at Abe as she lay beneath him and rubbed noses with her.

“We were talking about Christmas,” she reminded.

“Yeah…Christmas,” he agreed, before attempting to covering her mouth.

Turning her head away, she said, “just because you don’t like this part of the conversation, doesn’t mean we’re not having it.”

“I know, but I want you with me.”

“Me too, but we both need to spend time with our families. Besides, I don’t think your mother would appreciate me being around.”

“Fuck her,” he said, nibbling on her ear.

“Mmmm…Nick, I have to go home and see if I can make peace with mom. Hey! Pay attention.”

“Okay,” he chuckled. “You’ll call me if she gives you shit?”

“I’ll call even if she doesn’t give me shit. You?”

“Try and stop me.”

“Next on the list is shopping for Christmas presents.”

She didn’t get another word out, because his lips were silencing her. Not that she minded in the least. Nick’s kisses had a way of making her forget everything. She combed her fingers through his hair listening for the moans she was learning to love. Sifting slightly, allowed Nick’s hips to rest securely between her legs. Nick bit his bottom lip as he rocked against her. She moaned as her body matched his rhythm.

“Bella,” slipped from his lips.

Abe arched, exposing her throat to him. His lips immediately sought out the exposed flesh. They both froze when they heard a knock at the door.

“Ignore it.”

“Nick, we can’t ignore it.”

“Yes we can.”

“Hey! You guys in there,” yelled the muffled voice on the other side.

“I’m gonna kill him,” mutter Nick, going to the door.

“You are in. Great! So, whatcha doin? Cool, Buffy.”

AJ entered the room and headed straight for the couch where Abe was sitting. Walking over, Nick glared down at him.

“Don’t stand up all night Nicky.”

“Took my seat,” he muttered.

“What,” asked AJ.

“Nothin’, ” he replied, flopping down in a chair.

“Damn, it’s almost over,” stated AJ, at the next commercial break. “Oh wait…a Buffy Marathon! Woohoo! We’ve hit the Vampire Slayer motherload!”

Nick and Abe exchanged glances. Abe had to bite her tongue to keep from laughing. Nick scooted farther down in the chair, scowling. AJ was oblivious to the couple. As the next episode started, AJ began to fidget, twisting this way and that.

“AJ, what are you doing?”

“It’s my back and neck. I think I over did it at rehearsals today.”

Concerned, Abe reached over and rubbed his neck.

“Ahhhh,” sighed AJ. “Hang on.”

Getting up, AJ pushed the coffee table out of the way and pulled Abe from the couch to the floor, where she landed with a thud. Before she could fuss, AJ positioned himself between her legs.

“Continue,” he ordered. “Ow! Damn it! Why’d ya hit me?”

“Gosh AJ, you asked so nicely.”

“Shit Abe! I’m in pain!”

“I’m in pain too. Thanks to you yankin’ me down here.”

“Aww poor baby! Want me to kiss it and make it feel better?”

“NO!”

They both looked at Nick.

“Problem Nicky?”

“No,” replied Nick, once again slouching in the chair.

“Moo-DEE,” stated AJ. “Abe will you please, please give me a massage. I’ll be your best friend. Don’t smack me in the head again.”

Laughing, Abe began working on AJ. Nick tried to ignore them, but it was impossible. AJ was moaning and groaning. Nick made it about a half-hour before admitting defeat. If he stayed in the room much longer, he was liable to pitch AJ off the balcony or drag Abe to bed. Neither was an option.

“I’m goin’ to bed,” he stated, getting up and heading for him bedroom.

The other two could only watch him go.

AJ called out, “Night Nicky.”

Abe stared at the closed door.

“You know, I could do Buffy,” mused AJ.

“You could?”

“Yep. Course, I liked her better when she didn’t get so skinny, but I’d still do her.”

“I’m sure Freddie Prinz Jr. would be happy to hear this.”

“Why? They still datin’?”

“No…married.”

“You don’t say?”

“I do.”

“Huh…well that’s just depressin’. I think I need to lay down.”

“AJ,” laughed Abe.

“Seriously, this is a shock. Anyway, you’ve relaxed me. If I don’t got to bed now, I’ll be laying here in the morning. Thanks Abe. You’re the best,” he said, helping up her from the floor and giving her hug.

“Glad to help. I’ll send my bill.”

“You do that. Tell grumpy good night for me.”

“I will. Night AJ.”

“Night,” he called, letting the door close behind him.

Abe took a minute to turn off everything out in the main room. Stopping in front of Nick’s door, she hesitated then knocked.

“Come in.”

“Hi.”

“Hi,” he greeted, not bothering to turn on a light or move from his face down position on the bed.

“May I come in?”

“Sure. Need the light on?”

“No,” she replied, closing the door and crossing the room to take a seat on the bed. “I know you’re mad.”

“I’m not mad. Just frustrated.”

“Why?”

Propping up on his elbows, he replied, “because I want a back rub.”

Smiling, Abe said, “You can have a back rub.”

“I can.” He sounded like a little kid.

“Yes,” she stated, lightly running her hands over his back.

She giggled when Nick collapsed on the bed with a moan. “Feel good?”

“Oh yeah…mmmm.”

“To hard,” she asked, applying more pressure between his shoulder blades.

“No just right. You can sit on me if you want.”

“That’s okay.”

“Abe what’s wrong,” he asked, hearing something in her voice.

“Nothing. I just don’t want to squish you.”

“You won’t.”

“Yes I will.”

“Will you try it?”

“No Nick. I’m going to bed,” she said.

Nick turned on his side and quickly caught her wrist. “Don’t go. I’m sorry I upset you.”

“I’m sorry,” she stated, still trying to leave.

“Stay Abe. Please…”

“Stay?”

“Yeah. Sleep here tonight.”

“I don’t know…” She trailed off.

“We’ve shared a bed before,” he reasoned.

“I know.”

Sliding his hand up her arm to tangle in her hair, he gently brought her mouth to his for a whisper of a kiss. “Please. I want to hold you.”

“Move over.”

Nick quickly scooted over to make room for her. Wearing her sweats and T-shirt, she eased under the covers with him. He pulled her flush against his body and kissed her. Her hand brushed his bare hip and she tensed in surprise.

Pulling back, he asked, “do you want me to put some clothes on?”

She thought a moment, then said, “no. Surprised me is all.”

“Let’s get some sleep.”

“Okay,” she agreed, turning over and scooting back against him.

Both of them ignored how aroused he was, when he pulled her close to him. His fingers moved through hair until he finally lulled first her, then him to sleep.

Chapter 41

“Cavett.”

“Taberson,” parroted Michele.

“Hey! What’s up?”

“He asked me!”

“Chely,” she exclaimed. “When? What’s the ring look like? When’s the wedding?”

“What? No I told you so?”

“A given,” laughed Abe.

“Last night. The ring is pretty…heart shaped diamond in a gold band.”

“So you.”

“I know! We don’t know a wedding date. I have to get your schedule.”

“Nothing will keep me from being there.”

“Better not. My Maid of Honor has to be there.”

“Serious?”

“No.”

“In that case, yes! Wait, Maid of Honor helps you with everything and throws the shower. Maybe you should go with someone else.”

“Shut up! You are doing it. You said yes. All the details will get worked out.”

“Michele, I’m so happy for you. Tell Tim congrats.”

“I will. He asked mom and dad for permission.”

“Of course,” Abe replied, before laughing.

“What’s going on? I can tell you’re around the stage.”

“Yeah I’m up in the seats. They are doing sound check. AJ and Nick are about to cause Kevin to have a stroke. They are wired for sound and bouncing off everything. He is trying to rein them in.”

“How long has the man known them?”

“Years.”

“Has he not learned yet,” asked Michele.

“Apparently not.”

“What’s going on with you and Nick?”

“I don’t know.”

“How is it being around everyone else?”

“Okay, now that Nick is playing by the rules.”

“Oh no! Not the dreaded Abe rules.”

“The very ones. Chel you know I could be fired.”

“I know. I think it’s a stupid rule.”

“Well I signed the contract. Plus it’s better this way.”

“Don’t do it,” ordered Michele.

Abe pretended innocence. “What?”

“Don’t start putting an end to this before it’s started.”

“I’m not even sure it’s started.”

“Bull!”

“Not bull.”

“He told you he cares about you and he wants to give this a shot.”

“Yeah,” relented Abe.

“So bull!”

“But he’s not acting like Nick.”

“How is he acting?”

“Hang on.” After making sure no one was around, she whispered, “he hasn't tried to get me into bed.”

“He hasn’t,” stated Michele, brows furrowing. “So you guys haven’t.”

“No,” interrupted Abe.

Thinking for a moment, Chel asked, “Have you done anything?”

“Make out,” replied Abe, blushing. “Since I’ve met him, he’s gotten every girl he’s been with in his bed as fast as he could.”

“But Abe none of them were his girlfriend.”

“Isabelle was.”

“Not really. Plus they knew each other before you met Nick, so you don’t know how long it took him to get her into bed.”

“But he’s not trying with me. I mean we slept together last night, but we just slept.”

“So he has no reaction to making out with you?”

“What are you asking me?”

“You know what I’m asking you. Does the boy get an erection or not?”

“Man, engagement has really brought you out of your shell.”

“Don’t change the subject.”

“Yes.”

“Then he respects you and is willing to take his time. That says a lot Anna.”

“I don’t know,” she trailed off.

“Are you ready for this to become so intimate?”

“NO! God the thought of him seeing me naked is terrifying.”

“I bet he knows you’re reluctant and giving you a chance to adjust. Anna you know you haven’t done the whole dating thing before.”

“Thanks for reminding me.”

“Hey, I’m just saying enjoy it. I think it’s good for him too.”

“How ya figure?”

“Instant gratification can get very boring. Besides there is something you need realize you are worth the wait. If he is the one, then he is worth the wait too.”

“I don’t know.”

“About him or you?”

“Me…and if he wants me in that way.”

“I think he does, but the only you will know for sure…”

“Don’t say I have to ask him.”

“You just did.”

“Damn it.”

“Suck it up,” laughed her best friend. “Honestly, Abe if this is right one you need to talk to him and let him in.”

“Do I have to,” whined Abe.

“No. You can sabotage this and be alone.”

“It sucks when you get all tough love on me.”

“Talk to him tonight.”

“I will.”

“Call me if you need me”

“I will.”

“I’m going now. Stop pouting,” chided Michele. “I can see it through the phone.”

Smiling, Abe said, “bite me.”

“Can’t do it. I’m now spoken for. I’m engaged!”

“You love saying it don’t you.”

“Did I mention I’m engaged?”

“Dork.”

“I’m engaged and I’m hanging up now.”

“Bye I’m engaged.”

Laughing, Abe hung up the phone and watched the antics on the stage. Brian and Howie had joined in the fun. Even from where she was sitting, she saw how red Kevin’s face was. He was close to blowing. Roger stepped in and got them back on task.

Abe’s leg started to bounce as she watched them run through a song. Thinking about actually having to talk to Nick about sex was making her nauseous. She felt even sicker just trying to picture a scene where she would be naked with him. Shaking her head, she left her spot and headed for the backstage area. Nope. She couldn’t have the talk.

Nick watched Abe bounce down the steps and, imagined or not, he saw her breast bounce slightly. His eyes traveled down to her hips as she crossed the floor. The swaying motion reminded him of when they had danced. He had turned her back to him at one point on the dance floor and pulled her close. He still felt the brush of her bottom against him. Biting his bottom lip, he pulled his shirt lower, making sure everything was covered. She looked up and smiled at him, causing his heart to skip a beat. He was still staring, after she disappeared into the back.

AJ walked over and said, “down boy.”

“Huh?”

“You’re bein’ real obvious.”

“What are you talking about,” asked Nick, pretending nothing was out of step. AJ gave him a pointed look. “Shit! Who else figured it out?”

“Just Pat, Marcus and me and only because you two let your guard down the other night on the dance floor.”

“Damn it! Don’t say anything, especially to Abe. She’ll freak!”

“Before you go gettin’ all wound up. None of us are going to say anything to anyone.”

“Thanks.”

“Yo! Any day fellas,” yelled Kevin from center stage.

“Coming Mother,” called AJ, as he and Nick fell back into place.

********

“Thanks for not saying anything.”

“No problem,” replied AJ. The two friends were lagging behind the others on the way to the dressing rooms. “I gotta ask you one thing?”

“No I haven't slept with her yet.”

“Ya haven’t?”

“No.”

“Cool. That’s not my question.”

“Oh…what?”

“This is serious right?”

“AJ,” exclaimed Nick.

“It’s a fair question,” defended AJ.

Running his hands threw his hair, Nick agreed, “I suppose it is and you know what? I am serious. AJ, I really like her. She believes in me. And…and she looks out for me without ever asking for anything. And damn, if she asked me I’d give her everything.”

AJ let out a low whistle, before speaking; “Shit you got it bad.”

“Never thought about it, but you know what? I do got it bad and it don’t even scare me.”

Pulling up short in the hallway, people just moved around them and hurried about their business. AJ looked Nick in the eyes and said, “I’m glad, because I’m only saying this once. Fuck with her and I’m comin’ after ya.”

“If I screw this up please come beat the shit out of me,” replied Nick. They started walking again. “AJ?”

“Yeah?”

“You figured it out when?”

“The first night we got here. Pat, Marcus and I watched you two dancing. We all agreed we wouldn’t say a word.”

“So if you knew then why have you been comin’ over and watchin’ TV with us the last two nights?”

“To torment you,” said AJ with a cackle as he made a break for the dressing room.

Nick laughing and in hot pursuit yelled, “you better run you dipshit!”

Chapter 42

“See that was painless.”

“No it hurt real bad.”

“You’re such a baby.”

“Am not. Where’s my present?”

“I don’t recall…”

“I should get a present for going through this.”

“I see." Abe tapped her index finger against her pursed lips, while thinking. "Let me think…I’ve got it.”

“Let me have it.”

“Your present is knowing this part is over and you only have two more steps left.”

“Two? How ya figure," Nick asked, sitting up on the couch.

“There is the getting and then there is the wrapping.”

“I don’t wrap.”

“You’ll learn.”

“This isn’t a fun present.”

“Stop pouting. It had to be done.”

Giving a pointed look at the man sitting at the table. “You think this is funny?”

Setting his book down, Pat said, "leave me out of it.”

“Fine.”

Pat and Abe watched Nick stomp to the back of the bus and close the door to his room.

“Great,” stated Abe, heaving a heavy sigh. “Rock, paper, scissors to see who goes back there and deals with him.”

Pat placed his book back in front of his face and said, “like I said, leave me out of it.”

“Fine.”

His laughter followed her to the back of the bus. Gingerly opening the door, she stepped inside and closed it. Nick was laying face up on the bed. He sat up and stared at her. She couldn’t suppress the squeak of surprise, when he quickly pulled her down on top of him.

“What are you doing,” she whispered.

He laughed, “Why ya whisperin’?”

“I thought you were mad,” she replied in a normal voice.

“Because you made me figure out what I want to give everyone for Christmas?”

“Yes.”

“No…I wanted to get you alone and this was the easiest way.”

“It was almost Pat.”

“No it wasn’t.”

“Only because he refused to play rock, paper, scissors with me.”

Nick studied her for a moment. “You really didn’t want to come back here?”

“No. I really didn’t want you mad at me.”

“Well I’m not.”

“Baby,” she retorted.

“Oh say it again,” he teased.

Abe leaned close to his ear. Allowing her warm breath to tickle his skin, she whispered, “baby.”

“Like the way that sounded, but I’m still not wrappin’.”

“Oh you,” scolded Abe, sitting up on him. “besides, if we time it right we can shop online and everything will be delivered the day you get there.”

He pouted, “but there is still the wrappin.”

“Most companies will wrap them for you.”

“Aww yeah that’s what I’m talkin’ about,” he said wiggling underneath her.

“You are in a silly mood tonight,” she said with a smile.

“I’m just happy. Life’s good.”

“It is,” she agreed.

“Bella,” he said in a singsong fashion.

“What,” she replied with an eyebrow cocked.

“You’ve been sitting on me for the last couple of minutes.” Seeing the look of mortification, he immediately sat up and stopped her from moving.

“Nick let go.”

“No,” he said, firmly. “I like you sitting on me. You were even laying on me earlier and that felt real good.”

“Nick,” she said, refusing to look at him.

“Honest Bella. You’re not too heavy. You’re not heavy at all.” She studied him for a moment. He placed a gentle kiss on her lips. “I want you sit on me. Okay?”

She could only nod. He took her face in his hands and placed delicate kisses on her cheeks, nose and finally her lips. He felt her begin to relax.

“Now how about the backrub you started the other night.”

Letting her head fall to the side, she began to smile as she looked into his eyes. Nick slowly pulled his T-shirt over his head and dropped it by the bed. He protested when she moved off the bed, but she quieted him with a kiss. She stepped out to her bunk, but soon returned with a bottle of lotion. Smiling, Nick flipped onto his stomach.

Abe hesitated only a moment before sitting on him. With a mischievous smile, she squeezed some of the cold lotion onto his back causing him to jump. He settled down upon feeling her small hands moving on his back. Abe relished the feel of his warm skin. She kneaded the tight muscles and felt them relax. Her heart skipped a beat each time he sighed. Wiping any lotion left on her hands onto her sweats, she began to massage his scalp. Her hands froze the second he groaned. The sound came from down deep inside him.

“Don’t stop,” he begged.

Her fingers began to work their magic again. Nick was in heaven and hell. Her touch was relaxing him in some ways and in other ways it was driving him insane. She had worked out all the kinks in his back, but in doing so had awakened his desire. He had become very aware of the tiny rocking motion of her hips as she worked on his back. Now feeling her fingers in his hair was making his crazy.

“Lift up for a second,” he commanded. When she did as he asked, he immediately turned onto his back, pulling her back down on him.

“Better,” she innocently asked.

“Yeah,” he lied.

He bit his bottom lip as he watched her warm some lotion in her hands and went back to work. Goosebumps appeared as her fingers danced across his chest.

“Cold?”

He moaned, “no.”

His fingers gripped her thighs when her fingers brushed over his nipples, which were as hard as pebbles. He laughed and wiggled around, because her fingers lightly skimming down his sides tickled. She shifted her weight as her hands moved down to work on his stomach. He arched and moaned.

“Nick,” she softly said.

“I’m okay,” he replied.

“Nicky.”

Opening his eyes, he looked at her and was surprised. Her cheeks were flushed and she was biting her bottom lip. Her eyes were languid with desire. Her breathing was shallow.

“Bella,” he replied, before pulling her into a kiss. “God I want you.”

“I know. Me too.”

“I’m not rushing you. I want your first time to be amazing.”

“What?”

“I promise I will make your first time everything it should be."

Sitting up, she slid to sit on the bed beside him. His brows furrowed.

"What?"

"You think I'm a virgin?"

"Yeah. Don't be embarrassed."

"I'm not."

"Good, because it is nothing to be embarrassed about."

"I'm not a virgin," she corrected, in a voice devoid of emotion.

"You're not?"

"Thanks Nick," she said, turning her back on him.

Nick became agitated. "What'd I do?"

"Of course no one would want the fat girl."

"That’s not what I said."

"No, you just assumed I was a virgin."

"You're the one who acted like you'd never dated."

"I didn't date," she replied in a small voice.

"What?"

Spinning around to face him, she replied bitterly, "I didn't date."

"Oh God! You were…"

"Raped? No."

"Oh." His eyes clouded with confusion.

"Fine! I'll spell it out. I decided I wasn't turning 21 a virgin, so I talk a friend into it. So I guess you were right. No one wanted the fat girl."

"Stop that," he said, his voice edging up in volume. Taking in a calming breath, he continued, "I never said that. Also Bella, he wanted you, otherwise he wouldn't have done it."

"I was a warm place to put it."

"Stop putting yourself down. It's not like I'm a angel."

"You're famous and in music. You're suppose to be a stud."

He laughed ruefully. "Yeah got me nowhere."

They sat for a moment lost in their own thoughts.

"Bella?"

"Yeah?"

"So only the one guy and only the one time?"

"No. I tried to do the casual thing once or twice."

"How'd that go?"

"I figured out I'm not a casual kind of girl."

"Shoot I could have told you that," he said, smiling.

"Yeah well when no one is interested the options are narrowed."

"I’m interested."

"I know you are and I still don't get it."

"Okay that hurt," he stated.

"I mean, you can have anyone. There are girls everywhere who have hot bodies and they would be more than willing to be with you."

"No they don't want to be with me. They want to be with someone famous…Anyone famous. Why do you want to be with me?"

"Because you've got a good heart and you're funny. You're sweet and frustrating at times, but over all you're a good guy. It doesn't hurt that you're sexy or that your kisses make me forget my name."

"They do?"

"Oh yeah," she said, nodding her head.

"Well you feel what you do to me."

She blushed, but also smiled.

"All you need to know is I want you as my girl. You believe in me and I believe in you. I will continue to believe in you even after you believe in yourself."

Nick pulled her into his arms as he lay down.

After a moment, he said, "Bella?"

"Yes?"

"So…"

"We're still taking it slow."

"Just checking."
