| Chicago has always been known as a cultural melting pot. The flavor of the city is defined by its diverse ethnic neighborhoods. Felix and the Cats are a band that reflect that diversity. The “Cats” cook up a musical gumbo, tasty morsels of American Roots music that delight the senses. Their recipe goes something like this…………. Take one guitarist from Dallas, Texas with influences that include blues, swing, zydeco and tex-mex, add a singer from Kansas City with BIG VOCALS, ala Big Joe Turner, Zuzu Bollin and T-Bone Walker, add a dash of drums, steeped deep in the blues tradition, stir in a jazzy, swinging bass, and top it off with some piano straight out of New Orleans…...let it simmer, and the result is a gumbo that leaves you wanting more. Swing?? These guys were playing it long before the Gap commercial aired!! Blues?? They play it cool and simple…….the way it’s supposed to be played. Going to a “Cats” show is a lot like taking a musical tour of America. They may take you to Texas for some blues, then to the west coast for some jump, then off to Kansas City for some swing, and finally to the Gulf coast for a bit of Zydeco. A musical gumbo that pleases the senses and leaves you wanting a second helping. One last thing…...When you come to a “Cats” show, be sure to bring your dancing shoes!! |
