| Sure cigarette smoke has recieved a lot of publicity and national activism, but what about the other types of smoke? Biomass smoke is smoke produced by burning primary or "hard"fuels like wood,coal,dung etc. Biomass fuels produce many harmful pollutants that affect your body way more than cigarettes. PM,or particulate matter,is a vehicle for lung damage in all types of smoke.The particles are so small that a lot of them are unfilterable by conventional means.They go deep into the lungs and stay there for the lifetime of the individual. I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly.Your life and your children's lives are in the balance. If you are a parent,you have a moral and ethical obligation to protect your family from this.If you are an administrator or a public official,you have a moral and ethical obligation to protect the public from this.If you are a polluter,while you may not be breaking any inadequate city ordinances or pooly written and enforced laws you are still endangerring the public health and you should be aware that the jury is in on wood smoke.No matter if smoke is coming from cigarettes,the bbq pit or the wood stove or fireplace or a forest fire,or gasoline and diesel exhausts,smoke kills.Lung damage permanently affects the quality of life and lung health should be preserved at all costs. |
