Word Problem: One day a store sold 30 sweatshirts. White ones cost $9.95, and yellow ones cost $10.50. In all, $310.60 worth of sweatshirts were sold. How many of each color were sold?
|
Since we know that the
white shirts + the yellow shirts equal 30 sweatshirts, we can make the
equation:
x = White Shirts
For the next equation
we know that the total amount was $310.60 and x + y equals this amount
so the equation would be:
We need one equation
to be in the form of y =
We now have a system
of equations:
Our next step is....
Now we substitute x
in the first equation:
(8, 22)
Now we can check our
answer by...
y = -x + 30
