Oktay Derelioglu had a wonderful start to his international career with Turkey, scoring
four goals in only his second game for the national team against San Marino in November 1996. Was part of the EURO
2000 squad and has been used as a perfect foil for Hakan Sükür with his strong running and work-rate.
He spent six seasons at Besiktas JK, scoring four goals in six games in their UEFA Champions League campaign in
1997/98. He moved to Gaziantepspor in 1999 and enjoyed a bumper time scoring 21 goals in 22 games. Moved briefly
to the Canary Islands to join UD Las Palmas at the start of 2000/01 season but returned to Turkey after training-ground
and dressing-room disputes. His time in Spain was not helped by injury problems. Trabzonspor brought him back to
Turkey and Oktay repaid them with 13 goals in 13 matches. He then moved to Fenerbahce SK in July 2001. |
