Henri Cartan's 100 Anniversary |
June 28 I assisted the conference held in memory of Henri Cartan's
100 anniversary at Ulm. It was exciting to see the great collection of
mathematicians coming from all over the world, most of them are aged,
and look quite cool. I enjoyed much to the talks, scientific ones and
narrating ones, given by his students and friends. -- They are celebrated, too.
In the evening, a short movie was presented. At the end, the young
director -- daughter of a mathematician -- cried. Me too. It's simply
too great -- a grand character, and a lovely personality. I cried, being touched, in the quiet garden of ENS, listening
to the joyful chats of someone else and the sound of fountain. La vie
continue, and I could no more be as glad as this: the "profound
happiness inside Universe", (B.Russell) -- of that inside human's heart.
It was at that moment I found myself understood the meaning of life,
and the value I've been looking for so long time. |
