This is a little tribute to Coron and
to you people who have made those Busuanga expeditions a true adventure. This third Coron
trip of January 2000 was an excellent start for the journeys of the new century, wherever
those may lead. Thank you, Robie, without you I guess we would have never have known Coron
as we have done so.

. | Coron's surprises are natural to the core. (As opposed to "surprising Singapore," where the surprising force of your urge to spend is inversely proportional to the size of your budget.) The first Coron visit was a sensory overload, intensified by the fact that we were fresh into this snorkelling stuff and there was so much to see and eat. After a couple of years, we managed to come back and see more islets so typically deserted with nary a sign of unbiodegrable trash. I mean, where were the bottlecaps and shampoo sachets? And, wow, oo nga pala, the characters that one comes across! I need not name names. But Ill make an exception for Lola Piling, the woman who kept her composure under pressure from a bunch of total strangers at midnight. Possibly despite herself, ha-ha. In my book, shes the cool momma, circa 1995. |
